AI is an undeniably-loaded topic in this era we have all found ourselves in. No matter your medium, AI impacts all of us, and as artists we have unfortunately been bestowed the task of needing to take a stance. It is impossible to be neutral in the face of a society-changing force such as this, especially when your industry is one of the most impacted. Because of this, The Haven would like to make our position known upfront.

The Haven does not moderate the use of AI in the context of administrative work only for our members' businesses. If our members are using it to expedite research, assist with tax filings, or write technical copy for a client contract, this is not something we actively encourage or discourage (and frankly would be impossible for us to play referee on anyway, as we do not get involved in individual members' businesses in that way).

However, The Haven is staunchly against the use of AI for the direct production of creative work. We find programs like DALL-E, Sora, and other image/video generation programs to be counterintuitive to the very meaning of creativity in and of itself. It's not work we accept in our gallery or retail spaces, is not used in our Dreamweaver magazine, and we do not knowingly accept member applications whose medium involves utilization of AI image/film generation.

We hope our stance regarding AI helps preserve the integrity of the practice of creativity. AI will never know what it's like to live and breathe, experience triumph and heartbreak, birth and death. But we will. Those are the stories we tell with our work; that will never be artificially replaced.
